Herbal formulas
A formula is a short list of herbs chosen together for one person after a pattern assessment. Many start from classical formulas in texts such as the Shang Han Lun and the Jin Gui Yao Lue, and Quang changes them for you.
You get the herb list in writing, with common, pinyin and Latin names, and a written estimate before the pharmacy packs anything.
Written after a visit, never from a quiz

The forms a formula comes in
You choose the form that fits your week.
Raw herbs
Weighed, bagged and simmered at home into a tea. It takes time and smells strongly, and many people like the control.
Granules
Concentrated herbs dried into granules that you stir into hot water. The quickest to take.
Tinctures
Herbs drawn into a liquid and taken by the dropper. Ask us about the alcohol if that matters to you.
Tell us first
Quang goes through this list with you before he writes anything.
Everything you take
Prescriptions, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, supplements and teas. Bring us a list.
Blood thinners
Some herbs change how blood thinners work. Quang leaves out any that clash.
Pregnancy or nursing
Some herbs are not used in pregnancy or while nursing. Tell us before your first visit.
Allergies
Name any allergy to a plant, a food or a medicine, and any reaction to herbs in the past.
Liver or kidney conditions
These change which herbs are used and how much. Your doctor should know about the formula.
Surgery coming up
Tell your surgical team about every herb. Many ask you to stop them ahead of time.
What a formula does not do
Herbs are not a replacement for your medicine or your doctor, and nothing here is a promise of an outcome. Never stop a medicine because of a formula; tell your prescriber about everything you take.
If you feel unwell on a formula, stop it and call us the same day. For trouble breathing, swelling of the face or throat, or any emergency, call 911.
